Yoga Practice: Not a Competition
I used to be the type of person who liked to jump right into things. I would be determined to get an inversion, and rather than strengthening each muscle to properly achieve the inversion or pose, I would go right into a pose that my body was not ready for.
By doing this, I got hurt and had to stop lifting and practicing inversions for quite some time.
Now I am starting fresh.
I’m ready to begin practice yoga again without the eagerness to get a pose the moment I learn about it. I will take the time to start from the beginning and strengthen each and every muscle in my body.
As Krishnamurti once said,
"Real learning comes about when the competitive spirit has ceased.”
Whether you are in competition with others or yourself, let it go.
Yoga is about spirituality and strengthening.
Savor the practice and what it does for your body and use the more advanced poses and inversions as a source of motivation, not competition.
Another day another green smoothie!
-Spinach…so much spinach I can’t even explain
-A lil water
…basically the exact same as yesterday but bigger and better haha
Day 5 of being 100% vegan!
What I learned today:
It surprisingly has not been too hard to say “no thank you” to a ton of dessert food that I usually love.
My roomies made cookies…wasn’t even tempted.
A group presented in one of my classes and handed out chocolate to the winning team (my team) and I didn’t eat it!
The other day I had the most delicious vegan chocolate chip cookies!
If I want ice cream? They sell healthy coconut milk versions, or I can just make it fresh myself with a blender!
They’re are so many alternatives to the poison you see on the grocery store shelves!
You just have to take the time to read the labels!
Today’s massive green smoothie!
-Tons of spinach…like seriously there is probably two salads worth in here haha
This marks day 5 of being 100% vegan!

Day 4 being 100% vegan again!
Woop woop :)
Tons of eating out this weekend though since my parents came into town, but sadly they left today :(
So although I was able to stay vegan with all the eating out, I am excited to just start eating fresh food I make on my own at home :)
I’ll continue to update you all on my 100% vegan-ness! As well as posting photos of meals, recipes, “what I ate today” and so on!
Comparison will get you no where.
We are all different.
Comparison will only rob you of your own happiness.
Rather than focusing on the good in other people’s lives, stop dwelling on the negatives in your own.
While life will always have its ups and downs, those negatives will seem far less superior if you begin to maximize the positives.
Rather than hating and shamming your own body…
And take care of it.
Because it is the only one that you will ever have.
Food is not to be feared
It is not scary
And it is not bad
Food, particularly fresh food from the earth, is wholesome, full of nutrients and total fuel for your body.
It will nourish you, make your skin glow, keep your nails and hair strong, allow for a body that can endure strength training, running trails, yoga, and other forms of movements and exercise, and so much more.
Food is not scary.
Food is amazing.
…and quite delicious too ;)
Would you rather…
Have your dream body but still be consumed with negative thoughts, guilt and obsessions over food and fitness?
Be as you are and be blissfully happy, having a healthy relationship with food and fitness?
If you chose the first option, you need to realize that while you may feel having your dream body would be the solution to all your problems, if you are still consumed with these same disorders thoughts, you will never appreciate your body, in any way, shape or form.
By reaching a healthy positive relationship with how you feel about your body and overall being, the self love will surely follow. Binging, purging, restricting…all of that will slowly subside and life will no longer revolve around thoughts of self hate and guilt.
You will eventually experience pure happiness again.
There is no quick fix to these sorts of things. Reaching a healthy mindset can take months, even years. And you will surely have ups and downs. However, these ups and downs will be minimal compared to trying to live your life consumed with disordered thoughts.
It won’t be easy and it won’t be quick, but I promise that it will be worth it.
It’s not about following a plan
Or sticking to a diet
Or loosing weight
It’s not about having a six pack
Or toned legs
Or reaching a new PR
It’s not about how you look
Or what others think
Or what the photos show
It is about having a healthy, balanced mindset with food and fitness and loving yourself for who you are at this exact point in time…not who you will be once you reach your goal.
Beautiful salad full of locally grown veggies! Absolute deliciousness :)
